The rain centre is intended to be the central hub for information dissemination
on rain water harvesting in India. The house, by itself, will be a live
exhibit on installed rooftop and surface water harvesting systems. In addition,
the rain centre will act as a charitable institution to obtain funds for
implementing rain water harvesting systems in charitable institutions such
as orphanages, old age homes, and in slums for the benefit of deprived
community.
The rain centre is located at No. 4, Third Trust Link Street, Mandavelipakkam, Chennai - 600028. Work began on the renovation of the house in April 2001.
The house is a one story concrete house built about ten years ago. The house is a two storey house with a living room, kitchen, two bed rooms, with attached bathrooms. The house was particularly chosen to represent a typical middle class residential house. We picked the location of the house to typify a urban dweller who undergoes the water problem day-in and day-out. Additionally, we picked this house since it is easily accessible for everybody who wants to come and visit and see RWH systems in action. The location is prominent and we believe that will add to the publicity of the message of rain water harvesting. For those who cannot, we have tried to provide as much information online as we could.
